Update: Dylan Flanagan, 28, of San Francisco was found dead Thursday on Clear Lake in Northern California after going missing Sunday, Oct. 10, sheriff’s officials said in a news release. His body was found on the shoreline by a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection crew.

Original story:

A 28-year-old San Francisco man went kayaking Sunday, Oct. 10 on Clear Lake in Northern California and never returned, authorities said.

Dylan Flanagan and his girlfriend took a vacation trip with friends to the lake to celebrate his birthday, the Lake County News reported.

He set out on a solo kayak excursion at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. At 8:20 p.m., his girlfriend called 911 when he hadn’t returned.

She had contacted him on his phone about 5 p.m., but subsequent calls went to his voicemail, the release said. A search of the lake Sunday night was called off because of wind.

On Monday, searchers found a dark green kayak believed to belong to Flanagan near Widgeon Bay on the lake, the release said. The search for Flanagan continued Tuesday.

Flanagan had planned to kayak to Rattlesnake Island, a friend told Lake County News.

He was last seen wearing a navy Hawaiian shirt, pink shorts and a straw hat, the release said.

Sheriff’s officials asked anyone with information to call 707-263-2690.
