The presenting duo arrived at the London Palladium dressed in pilots uniforms inspired by the British Red Arrows, to film a skit that will air when the new series kicks off this spring.
Ant and Dec's inspiration is aptly timed given the long-awaited Top Gun sequel is finally set for release in May 2022, after being delayed multiple times due to the Covid pandemic.

The initial decision was to postpone production until later on that year, however all involved agreed that they would not produce a new series until 2022.
Top Gun has become one of the most iconic action film's in history, starring Tom Cruise as loveable rogue US Navy Pilot LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, when it was released in 1986.

The film was originally slated for release on July 12, 2019, but has since been pushed back to May 27, 2022.
The moves were made by the studio because it didn't want to 'cherry pick' which movies would open in the current climate of the Covid pandemic.
The report revealed the movie giant believes all of their projects and stars deserve the same box office consideration and positioning in the current marketplace.
